LIONS  QUIZ

Tuesday, 21st February saw the giant intellects of Witney Lions lock horns (or manes?) at Witney Lakes Sports Bar, in the annual tightly-fought competition to decide which team should be crowned Quiz Champions of 2012.

The result was a resounding win for the "Thornbirds & Blokes" who scored an impressive 83 points (out of a maximum of 110), and won a prize of bubbly wine. The team that brought up the rear on 64 points were the "Tarts & Vicars" - with a name like that we can only assume they had other things on their minds - and they won something fishy i.e. something to encourage them to eat more of the stuff as their brains obviously need suitable  refreshment.

Anyway, a half-time sandwich & chips buffet hit the spot, and the bar was kept busy as everyone enjoyed their evening.

WEEKEND AWAY

The Park House Hotel in Shifnal, Shropshire was the destination for intrepid Witney Lions who set off for their annual weekend break on Friday, 23rd March.

A total of 23 Lions, their ladies and friends made the trip, and enjoyed the 4 star facilities on offer in the beautiful period buildings that the hotel occupies. The town of Shifnal is close to the Ironbridge Gorge, RAF Museum and Black Country Museum attractions, and is surrounded by the lovely Shropshire countryside, so Lions were able to spend a very pleasant couple of days exploring the area.

The big bonus for all was that, as ever on our Weekend Away, the weather behaved - in fact it was beautiful, with wall-to-wall sunshine on offer on each day.

Hopefully, everyone returned home suitably refreshed, and ready for the rigours of the Lionistic year ahead!

TREASURE HUNT

16th September was the walking "Treasure Hunt" in the charming town of Burford. It lasted approximately one hour and finish up at The Mermaid Inn and Restaurant in the High Street. There was a chance to discover a little more of a Cotswold town that I am sure most of us knew quite well already, combined with a little rivalry between Lions.

RAMBLE

6th October and the ramble start got underway from St Mary's Church, Kidlington. The circular walk which was fairly flat, if muddy in places! took us through mostly open countryside and part of the way alongside the Oxford Canal. There were three pubs and one tea room en route!

It was a fun day out before the winter set in (did we have a summer?)
