Lions Vice President Julie visited the Witney and West Oxfordshire Food Bank on 23rd September to present a donation of £500. Club members have seen at first hand what a well organised and vital service the food bank offers in these difficult economic times, and are delighted to have been able to offer this sum following earlier support throughout the Covid pandemic.

Witney Lions and Friends of Lions were busy again, marshalling the traffic for the Wychwood Forest Fair. The weather was ‘mostly’ kind to us, a few odd showers, that were actually quite refreshing on this quite hot and muggy day. Not as busy as last years event, but we were certainly kept on our toes for most of the day!! It’s great to work with other charities who support each other to ensure the public have a great time.

After months of planning we finally were able to put on the Annual Witney Carnival in conjunction with Witney Rotary Club, Witney Air Training Corp and Witney Round Table Club. This years theme was The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. The 2020 and 2021 Carnivals had to be postponed because of Covid, so it was a massive relief to all the organisers and to all those who attended (circa 8,000) the event, which took place in the scorching summer sun. Because of the heat we had to take the decision to cancel the Dog Show at very short notice, overall, this was well received by the public as it was the welfare of the animals that took precedence. More than 30 floats and vehicles were supported by marching bands and an array of adults and children all dressed up to celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
