Witney and West Oxfordshire Foodbank

Katrina Jenkins ( pictured with colleague ) of the Witney and West Oxfordshire Foodbank, holds a cheque donated by Witney Lions club.
£200 of the money comes as a grant from ‘The Hunger Project’ which is an initiative of Lions Club International designed to address need in local communities , and Witney Lions have given a further £500 from their own funds to make a total contribution of £700.
Says Katrina ‘ without the kindness of volunteers, donations of food and financial help, we simply would not be able to do what we do. Covid has totally changed the lives of many, who sadly find themselves in a situation where putting food on the table is beyond their income. What we offer is a small but vital service to the community’.

Sending out an SOS

WITNEY LIONS CLUB is SENDING OUT AN SOS!!
Do you, or someone you know, have a storage area that we can use?
Witney Lions have trailers containing various items of equipment that they use for their charitable fundraising activities. Until now a kind farmer has allowed us to store our kit, for free, in an unused old barn.
However, that arrangement is shortly coming to an end, and we URGENTLY need a new home.
Ideally, that would be a single covered site, approximately 25M x 10M in dimension, but any alternative offers will be gratefully received. Importantly though, we will need to complete our move to new premises before the end of 2020.
So please, if you can help, contact us either by Facebook or email via our website www.witneylions.org.uk
Please share this message if you are able.
THANK YOU!

Dream Scheme update

Dream Scheme

We are very sorry to announce that we are unable to run the Dream Scheme for 2021. Unfortunately, our fundraising and club activities have been severely disrupted due to the Covid 19 pandemic, and so the decision has been made to cancel the scheme for this year. We anticipate being able to resume the scheme for 2022 commencing in October 2021.

We realise this will be a blow to local organisations who could benefit, but we trust you will understand our reasons.

Fundraising update

Fundraising update

During the current health crisis, Witney Lions have been unable to hold meetings or to pursue their usual programme of fundraising, but we have been delighted to support others who are active in the community, including the following two outstanding organisations:

WITNEY FOODBANK has, unsurprisingly, seen an increase in requests for help in recent weeks, and asked for funds to enable them to source supplies to assist them in their important work supporting families and the vulnerable.
We have been delighted to donate £800 to their funds.

WITNEY SCOUT VOLUNTEERS A fantastic initiative this, whereby DBS checked Scout leaders responded to the Windrush Medical Practice request to provide a delivery service, of drugs and medicines, to those patients who have been unable to leave their homes in recent weeks. Set up in just 48 hours, and run in conjunction with Witney Land Army, this service is rapidly expanding the area covered, and the number of volunteers involved, and it seems likely that it will be needed for many weeks or months yet.

An important necessity has been to obtain suitable insurance provision for the organisation, particularly public liability cover, and Witney Lions have been pleased to donate £450 to cover this particular cost.
Finally, Lions would like to wish everyone the very best of health and safety in these difficult times. We look forward to seeing you all again when we get back to normal, which we fervently hope will be before too long. STAY SAFE.

Barnstable

A few of the Lions spent time in Barnstaple for their annual weekend away just prior to the social distancing advice and this unprecedented situation we find ourselves in. A great time was had by all. Please keep safe and we will all come through the other side. The Lions will continue to support the community where we can and will be found individually helping other agencies for example food banks and the Citizens Advice Bureau.
